FAQ

Dog HiKING - FAQs

Q: How well established is DDH  in Denver?

A: We have been in business since 2010. Denver Dog Joggers was the first company to provide dog running services in Denver.  We have since expanded our service line up to fast paced dog walking service, leisurely dog walking services, and most recently dog hiking services.

Q: How do I know if my dog will enjoy hiking?

A: Your dog will need to be in good health, maintain a 2.5 - 4 mph pace and be well socialized around other dogs and trail users. If you dog is not currently is in good form, we recommend starting of with one on one walking service from our sister company, Denver Dog Joggers.

Q: How will I know how each session went when I am not at home?

A: After we dropped off your dog, you will receive an email notification with a link to your online journal entry, which you can review it at your leisure. We record each session with GPS devices so that our arrivals, routes and departures are recorded.

Q: My dog has behavioral problems. Will you still service her/him?

A: Dogs must

  • In good health
  • Be spayed/neutered
  • Rabies, DHPP vaccinations should be up to date
  • Your pup should be calm around other dogs
  • Should be well socialized in most scenarios (bikers, wildlife, etc.)
  • Must not be aggressive towards other dogs
  • Be able to remain calm and travel well in a vehicle

If your dog does not meet these requirements, we recommend using the services our our sister company, Denver Dog Joggers.

A: Four will be in a pack.

Q: What is included with each visit?

A: Pick at your home, transport to the trail head, an adventure on the trails, fresh air and drop off services are included. If you are not home when we drop off your dog, we will check/refill the water bowl.

  • The goal of the hiking service is to get your dog’s heart rate up, expend energy, letting your dog socialize with other dogs and ultimately improve your dog’s wellness.

Q: Where do you hike with my dog?

A: We will head into the foothills when the temperatures and weather is good. In Colorado this means most days. However on especially cold or hot days or during winter storms we may need to alter our destination to ensure all the pups stay healthy and safe.

Another factor is the weather. Most dogs slow down in hot weather, but we will also lower the intensity during the warmer summer months.

We do require that all dogs joining the group must be able to maintain a 2.5 - 4 mph pace.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover Card.

Q: Are certain breeds better suited for running?

A: Most breeds are well suited for hiking in the foothills of Denver. However each individual dog and breed will have different abilities. Your vet will be able to give you the best advice.

Q: At what age should I start hiking my dog?

A: In general, 8 months or older is an appropriate age to begin hiking for 4 - 6 miles. Your vet will be able to help you determine if a long hike is appropriate for your dog's age and breed.

Q: At what age should a dog stop exercising?

A: As a dog ages, exercise tolerance and requirements will change. Your veterinarian will want to perform a complete physical exam on your pet and discuss exercises that are appropriate.

If a long hike is too much for your dog, our sister company, Denver Dog Joggers, does offer lower intensity services, such as fast paced walking and leisurely walking.
